On debates, Ehrlich reaps what he sowed

Sunpaper Letter to the Editor from Dave Goldsmith August 2, 2002.

It is hard for me to sympathize with Rep. Robert L. Ehrlich regarding debates (“Candidates debate about their debates,” July 28).

In 2000, I asked Mr. Ehrlich to endorse a then-pending House resolution to make it easier for third-party candidates to enter the presidential debates.

No friend of democracy or open debates, Mr. Ehrlich’s position was that it should be made more difficult to get credible candidates into the presidential debates.

From my vantage point, Mr. Ehrlich is now getting his just desserts.
